This is my first fully digital drawing. When the pandemic started, I splurged – well splurge… it wasn’t expensive – on a Wacom drawing tablet, thinking it would come in handy for photography too (cloning is so much faster now) and why not use this time in lockdown to learn something new?
I sketched the concept in 2019 already, and I’d initially planned to watercolor it. But I lack the creative space currently to really go all out on watercolor painting so I hadn’t gotten around to it, and then I figured it would be a perfect start to try digital illustration. The idea hopefully speaks for itself or basically that you see a meaning it it, whatever that may be. It can mean different things to different people. Maybe it’s anti-Valentine, maybe it’s just cynicism, maybe it’s ironic.
But for me it’s a depiction of my life’s philosophy basically, the dichotomy to be able to say “Hey fuck you”, but still feel like – and know that I am – a loving person in general. I love hard, but I don’t settle for bullshit, and I’m not going to be subtle about it anymore. GOOD DAY.
