This is a reworked version of an older donut pattern I made in 2019. I watercolored the pink donut a few years ago – and it’s a small painting, I want to say it’s maybe 6 centimeters in diameter. I wanted to try out my new Opera Pink watercolor, and rather than bust out a quick drawing, I kind of also wanted to do something dainty in painstaking detail. Juuuuust to see if I could. I used a super, super fine brush to do this. I spent a few hours on it for sure. So this donut symbolizes a change in how I draw now. This donut is me literally taking my SWEET time finishing a piece and feeling like I can CALL it a piece.
I made it into a seamless pattern, because that’s part of what I do at Stocksy as a stock photographer. I make seamless patterns there, too., and figured why not apply that to drawings too? But I lacked the right tools then to turn it into a clean pattern. It wasn’t until I got my Wacom tablet that I had another look at the pattern and REALLY cleaned it up, and added better shading. And now I couldn’t be happier with it.
